What:
Bring Music to Life - presented by Dr. Sylvia Coats, author of Thinking
as You Play: Teaching Piano in Individual and Group Lessons When: Friday, February 17, 2012 Time: 2:00-4:00 p.m. Where: Pine Valley Christian Church, 5620 E. 21st, in Wichita Details:
How do you bring music off the page to play with joy and expression? Join
Sylvia Coats as she leads an interactive session, Bring Music to
Life. Inspiration from Barry Greens new book on the topic
will provide a jumping off point to play, move, and imagine like a child,
and make music magical for our students and us. Join your teaching friends at Senseney Music on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 9:30 to 11:45 am for a presentation of the results of the survey conducted by Wendy Stevens and Laurel Tiger. Coffee and snacks will be served as we discuss important business issues that affect each of our studios. This is a great opportunity to discuss everything from tuition to make-up policies, to communication with students and parents, and more. Please RSVP to Wendy at wendy@wendyspianostudio.com. PLEASE NOTE: This is a change of location for the March Coffee Chat on Business Issues listed in your yearbook. Music Progressions 2012 - New Location!
Please note: Registration forms are due by MARCH 15. Click here or on the image to the left to download a Music Progressions Teacher Form for this year. You may indicate which day and GENERAL time frame the student prefers. You may also indicate which location the student prefers. We will do our best to honor these requests but cannot guarantee everyone their preferred site. We must split the enrollment evenly between west and east to make use of the facilities. Please contact Julie Brown (julieabrown@cox.net) if you have any questions as we move forward! Plans are in the works for another grand Music Olympics event! Our first committee meeting was postponed due to illness, but we have a date (Saturday, July 21) and a site (the beautiful Newman University's De Mattias Fine Arts Center), thanks to our gracious colleague, Carole Pracht! Other District 6 associations are invited to join us, and if you'd like to get in on the excitement of planning for this motivating student event, let us know. (We've never gotten a volunteer from a request like this, but perhaps you'll be the historic first!) Our Olympics in 2008 was overlapping half-day sessions that included an Olympic entrance into the "stadium," team competitions, team ensemble "play-offs," Olympic (theory) Games, and even lunch at our Olympic Canteen! It was an action-packed time! But, we'd like to tweak the plans to streamline them a bit, so that's where we could use your input. Come and join us! One exiting student remarked last time, "I thought this was going to be so boring, but I had a really great time!!" Contact Sally Buxton (sallybuxtonwks@gmail.com) if you would consider supporting our efforts! Janette Rupert resigned her accompanying job at Andover Central Middle and High Schools, effective at the end of this school year. This job is open for the 2012-13 school year, and is a wonderful job for anyone wanting to accompany at this level. For more information, please contact Nick Engels (choir director) at engelsn@usd385.org. Janette would also be glad to visit with you via phone (733-5445) about this opening. Judy Harrison, Sally Buxton, Marlene Hallstrom, Nancy Trier-Metzger, Julie Brown, Laura Vollen, Natalie Wickham, Paige Cress and Michal Rector were present. Treasurer, Sally Buxton, reported that Judy Bisek has rejoined WMMTA. The main account balance is $5,559.66 and the festival account balance is $2,098.60. The tax-exempt reinstatement will be filed soon. President, Marlene Hallstrom, reported that WAPTL is in the process of disbanding and will be giving their funds to WMMTA as stated in the WAPTL Resolution. It was suggested that legal advice be sought during the process of acquiring the funds from WAPTL. Also, as stated in the WAPTL Resolution, a board position will be created to help the competitions formerly put on by WAPTL flow smoothly under WMMTA. To honor the history of WAPTL, it was suggested to add something to the constitution. First Vice-President and Program Chair, Judy Harrison, reminded the board that there are two events coming up. The first is a presentation by DeeAnn Brown at Senseney Music on January 28 at 1:30pm. The second is with Sylvia Coats on February 17 at Pine Valley Christian Church. There is also a coffee chat on March 2 at Wendy Stevens' house that will discuss the results from the tuition survey. Due to the anticipated interest in the topic, there may be a location change. Second Vice-President and Membership Chair, Nancy Trier-Metzger, will update contact information for referrals and membership to current WMMTA brochures and distribute brochures to music stores and other appropriate venues. Newsletter Chair, Natalie Wickham, reported that the deadline for items to be posted in the newsletter is January 25. Music
