Gloria Miller Allen, a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, has selected 80 masterfully executed works that explore light and form through the tradition of transparent media. This exhibition of paintings by artists from Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, showcase a diverse range of subject matter and style, while collectively providing a unique perspecitve of the societal and evironmental landscape in which each artist lives and works. Raisa Garayeva, Ikat Weaving

The Wichita Center for the Arts proudly announces a presentation by Central Asian arts and crafts expert, Raisa Garayeva on Friday, November 21, 2008 from 5:30pm—7:30pm.

 Ms. Garayeva, a native of Bukhara, Uzbekistan, has lectured extensively in the United States, and represents craftsmen from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Her presentation will focus on the art of ikat weaving, which is a complicated process using thread from melted silk worm cocoons. She will feature Suzani (quilts), embroidery, silk scarves and purses, small rugs, Christmas ornaments, ceramics and other intricate and exotic handmade items, all of which will be available for sale.
